The RAC this Week (Oct 24th)

Dear Parents,

Thank you all for attending the Safety Ride and fulfilling your training requirement. And kudos to those who came more than once.

Just a reminder, you must attend at least one qualifying monthly ride with the group. Riding with the group every weekend is highly recommended. You will be better trained, more conditioned for longer rides and hills, and much happier during the week of the RAC. Don't wait until the last ride of the month to ride with the group.

This Sunday's Ride is your last opportunity to fulfill your monthly ride requirement. Please check out the ride details on the website.
The Road to Riches Ride
Sunday, October 27th, 9am
Mesa Verde Middle School

A few miles into the ride, we will be riding on a rocky, gravel road in the canyon for a short time. Stay with your Child.

Practice at home...

  • Power Pedal and Quick Start

  • Changing gears

  • Hand Signals

  • Communication ("Slowing, Stopping, On your left")

Hydration - As the rides increase in distance please be sure to have plenty of water. This may be a good time to start looking at Hydration Packs/Camel Baks.

Looking ahead: February 15. The Camp Pendleton Ride
This ride takes us from Oceanside to San Clemente and back and it's a lot of fun. We all need a permit for Camp Pendleton, and we cannot apply online anymore. We have to go to Oceanside in person, during their visitor's hours. https://www.pendleton.marines.mil/Base-Access/Recreational-Bicycling/ Minors can go with a registered parent.

The RAC this Week (Oct 10th)

Dear Parents,

Please keep tracking your miles and rides.  Every rider in your family must attend a Safety Ride (Adult and Child). There are 2 more: October 12 and October 20.

Attendance

  • If you don’t mark the attendance sheet, the ride doesn’t count. No exceptions! If you do not complete one group training ride in the month of October, or you do not attend a Safety Fun Ride, you will be dropped from the RAC. Don’t wait until the last qualifying ride or last ride of the month

  • Know your requirements. Visit the website: https://www.rideacrosscalifornia.com/registration-requirements

Training Rides - Please Stay with your Child

  • If you're child is much faster than you, ask your child to slow down or please find another family or adult willing to take responsibility for your child.

  • If you are faster than your child, ride with your child. This is about the 5th graders and the wonderful bonds you will all create with your children. Trust me, they will get better if you continue training together.

  • We are seeing too many kids without parents. We will soon leave the safe and predictable bike path. Kids on the road without parents is never a good thing.

Don't forget:

  • vest

  • helmet

  • water

  • name tag (if your name is not on your vest)

  • snack

  • extra tube for your tire (and a wrench unless your wheel has a quick release)

  • sun screen

  • 15 minutes early. You need to unload your bike and we leave on time.

  • be respectful to volunteers and follow their lead

  • know the route

  • Have Fun!
